“It’s cool to be kind” is one of life’s little rules Ibbleobble like to stick to. If you’re kind, it not only makes other people happy, it also makes you feel great too.
We have compiled a list of really cool things that we regard as cool. What is even cooler is that these little nuggets in our list are all doable and ultimately will make you a better person too… Are you guys and dolls ready? Here goes!
Writing ‘Thank you’ notes
Have any of you actually sent someone a ‘thank you’ note? Or maybe a ‘thinking of you’ note? If you haven’t… please do it, I have and it feels absolutely amazing! I love the ones you send in the post and knowing they will be getting it the next day. It will make their day and also make yours too. Having the ability to put a smile on someone’s face is a superpower everyone has!
Learning and using people’s name
How often do you reference someone’s name when you’re talking to them? Or even better remembering the name of someone you have only met once? It might not feel that important but we feel that’s such an awesome trait to have. This proves that you have been paying attention and showing interest in the conversation you have been having.
Showing up on time
A job interview, a date or a doctor’s appointment, punctuality goes an incredibly long way. Always make sure you have some wiggle room before you make your journey. In the hustle and bustle of today’s society, chances are you will be held up in one-way, shape or form. Be on time… it will make much more of a lasting impression than showing up late, we promise you!
Learning a new skill
Believe it or not, life is incredibly short. So in that time, generally, you have the choice to do whatever you want in this precious life. Ibbleobble is firm believers in ‘learning something new every day’ – no matter how small it is. Try to adopt a ‘can do’ attitude if things feel tough. If you have a skill you can share you can help others with, share it. We like sharing our knowledge.
Holding doors open
This actually happened to me yesterday day coming out of a shop I held the door open for an elderly lady. For the five minutes that followed, I felt a really good deed was done. Clearly, by her reactions, she was incredibly grateful and couldn’t thank me enough. It really is the little things that mean so much!
Mastering the art of listening
Distractions, distractions, distractions! How many people can associate their day to day life with distractions? Many hours are spent trying to communicate with people who have their head buried in their mobile phone. I for one am guilty of this – but do it much less than a used to. How many of you have actually sat down and have a good ‘chin wag’ with family or friends without having to consult your phone to see if you’ve missed anything? Do more talking and ESPECIALLY listening, it’s amazing what you find out!
Ability to admit you are wrong
The world would be a sad and crazy place if everyone went around thinking they were right all the time. I think it shows that you’re a stronger person if you have the ability to be able to say “Actually I am wrong, I am sorry.” – It’s absolutely impossible to be right all the time, so give people the leeway to make mistakes and encourage them to learn from them in the future.
Random acts of kindness
Something as little as holding the door open for someone is incredibly kind. I have often met up with friends bearing gifts such as an Ibbleobble mug, a bag of goodies or even a bag of Monster Munch! To me, these are kind and memorable and literally doesn’t take a lot to do. We are firm believers also of helping other small businesses raise their profile socially. We do this because it’s random, it’s kind and it costs absolutely nothing to do. Sharing is caring.
Investing in your future
This goes hand in hand with your ‘self-care’ – Looking after yourself isn’t a selfish act. Looking after yourself is an investment for your future. It doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with money either. Of course, money does help to a certain degree, but a healthy you mean a better you and meaning you can achieve much more. Investing in your future can sometimes mean you may have to compromise on some things, but as long as you are on the right path, forward is forward, right?
Being a mentor
Being a mentor doesn’t mean you have to dictate to people right from wrong. Ibbleobble believes simply being a good role model makes you a great mentor for anyone looking at you. Be kind, listen, give advice, share stuff, have an opinion, help people, give guidance, do the right thing are all traits of being a good mentor. We are all on a level playing field meaning we are all mentors in different ways. Surround yourself with good people. You will definitely learn an awful lot!
We genuinely hope you found this list helpful. We don’t want to come across as preaching from our soapbox, but we think this list will benefit people young, old and anything in between! We are all learning, we all have our own things going on. But if we can help you then this makes us happy. If you do happen to find this beneficial, please do share. We dig people who share!
Until next time,
