Since the launch of Ibbleobble educational apps, we have been so lucky to have acquired some truly wonderful friends delivering incredible products to aid the development of children’s education.
We have known the guys at The Magical World of Fingley® some time and thought it was about time we told you about them! I caught up with Fingley’s Marketing Director Jade Smith was more than excited to tell us their story so far…
The Magical World of Fingley® is a blossoming brand of children’s books. Through promoting mindfulness, kindness and thoughtfulness amongst each other and the world around us, we simply want to make the world a better place!
What is The Magical World of Fingley®?
First and foremost, The Magical World of Fingley® is a storybook world that’s brought life in an exciting series of children’s books!
Far away beyond the universe, galaxies and constellations that you see twinkling above you in the night sky, is a wonderful Eco-World called The Magical World of Fingley. This is a timeless world, surrounded by golden light where The Fingley Folk, a community of Humans, Faeries, Pixies and other curious creatures live! Amongst these curious creatures, is a ‘time-travelling’ bear named Dodl Bear®.
Dodl Bear® travels into children’s dreams and invites them to explore The Magical World of Fingley®; each adventure comes with a heart-warming and special life lesson for children to cherish.
What are The Magical World of Fingley’s aims?
The Magical World of Fingley’s main aim is to make the world a better place! One of our main characters, Dodl Bear®, is very special to this cause. Dodl Bear® – whose name means ‘Doing Ordinary Deeds Lovingly’, encourages kindness, mindfulness and thoughtfulness to the world and others around you. Throughout our books, it is our aim to subtly encourage these three ideas.
What’s more, due to the nature of the books themselves, The Magical World of Fingley® aims to encourage and develop children’s imaginations and interest in reading through our newly developed primary school KS1 & KS2 workshops.
How can people get involved?
If you’re a teacher, parent or host a children’s club, we have recently developed a whole new range of workshops that are tailored per each group of children. To date, our workshops have focused on World Book Day, Mindfulness, Creative Writing & Reading, and Craft Time with The Magical World of Fingley to name a few.
We have had some truly wonderful feedback from the workshops we have presented in primary schools so far! It has been so lovely for the team to see the children engage with our characters, books and overall workshops.
Now that spring has finally arrived, we are really excited to announce that we will hold workshops at our very own Fingley’s restaurant! These will be fun-filled craft themed workshops which will run throughout Easter & Summer breaks.
How does this improve a child’s education?
Through our book series & workshops, our key themes of kindness, thoughtfulness and mindfulness are promoted.
With regards to mindfulness, there is an emerging body of research that indicates that mindfulness can help our children improve their abilities to pay attention, to calm down when they are upset, and to make better decisions. In short, it helps with emotional regulation and cognitive focus.
It is known that book reading is more strongly associated with a literacy benefit, and has been found to increase the development of reading comprehension and vocabulary, which we know is a key government priority for schools this year. Thus, by ensuring our workshops are as fun and interactive as possible, we are eager to promote a keen interest in books to be read amongst primary school children; both in and out of the classroom!
Who is in your team and what roles do they play?
Our team is a small, but passionate one. Primarily, Daisa Morgan is our founder and author of The Magical World of Fingley®, Creator of Dodl Bear® and most recently Fingley’s® Restaurant. Daisa Morgan is a Yorkshire born Author with a passion for traditional story-telling, drawing on her inspiration of living in an Eco-Community. Secondly, we have Jade Smith who is our Sales & Marketing Director; Jade has worked alongside Daisa for five years, enjoying nothing more than developing The Magical World of Fingley®, achieving the highest possible standard. Our newest addition to the team joined us in January 2017, Project Manager; Emma is developing The Magical World of Fingley® to reach out to children, communities, schools and festivals, organising book tours & events.
What’s your long-term ambition?
Disney! We really think Disney needs a new ‘bear’, and Dodl Bear is the perfect ambassador to promote our three core ideas of kindness, mindfulness and thoughtfulness for such a creative and influential chain like Disney.
We would love for Dodl Bear to become a household name, and as Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, you can do it!”
What’s on the agenda for The Magical World of Fingley® this year?
We are always on the lookout for new events, book signings, and workshops to organise. With regards to the new few months we have an exciting array of book and family festivals which we will be taking part in all over the UK!
We have also just recently opened our first ever Fingley’s Children’s Restaurant based in Barton upon Humber in North Lincolnshire, so we are promoting this in any way we can for christenings, themed birthday parties, baby showers, workshops, or any other children’s events. We are hoping to have the ‘magical themed adventure playground’ open for Fingley’s restaurant in the summer, so we are extremely busy at the moment trying to prepare everything outside. It is a very exciting time in The Magical World of Fingley!
We <3 Fingley!
